Sonny Pugar… One of the area’s noted rock, r&b, and jazz drummers, in whose memory this non-profit organization was formed. In 2004, he died at the age of 54 after living with colon cancer for six years. The Sonny Pugar Memorial, Inc. has been established to support the creation and production of Southwestern Pennsylvania contemporary musical art, to contribute to the professional advancement of local musicians and to provide local musicians unable to cover medical or housing emergencies with financial assistance to allow them to pursue their music. Additionally, The Sonny Pugar Memorial, Inc. will educate audiences in Southwestern Pennsylvania on contemporary music created and performed in the region. We provide the resources and community education in Southwestern Pennsylvania to support and foster the local contemporary music community (rock, blues, r&b, jazz, country, and their derivatives), comprised of talented and skilled composers, musicians, and vocalists, allowing the musicians to create and perform their unique music and be the voice of the region.
