Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s? For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz. One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical. We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it. When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.
Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

Nominee 2016 Female Blues Artist of the Year
Ms Taylor P Collins is on the rise! The Northern California Entertainers Music Awards Show committee has nominated Taylor in two categories for the 2016 awards show in May. She is nominated for Female Blues Artist of the Year and Blues Band of the Year. Taylor and her band were honored by being chosen to be the tribute band and will perform with her band for the BB King Tribute portion of the awards show. She will also be one of the Northern California Blues Artists to be featured and profiled in the upcoming documentary “Every Day We Gots the Blues” which is being produced by Alex Eventmaster Daniels of Eventmasters Entertainment in Sacramento, Ca. The documentary will be aired on cable television. The awards show is May 28th at the Crest Theater in Sacramento. Ms. Collins is a veteran Bay Area Blues Artist and performer who is truly getting the attention and recognition she and her incredible band deserve. Taylor’s resurgence began in 2015 and gathered momentum with the 2015 International Blues Challenge when she made it to the final round amid intense competition.
Mentored by her dear friend Miss Ruth Brown, Taylor created her own style and brings a unique sound to the Blues that is sophisticated, powerful, funky, and presented as only she can. Taylor is known for her commanding stage presence, flash and glitz and her riveting 7 piece horn band!! She has performed in the company of industry legends including Etta James, The Neville Brothers, Barbara Morrison, Albert Collins, James Cotton, Gladys Knight, BB Queen, Bobby Warren, Elvin Bishop, Terry Hancks, Charlie Musselwhite, Shana Morrison, and Kenny Neal. Taylor has also performed with her dear friend and mentor the legendary Miss Ruth Brown and has opened for and performed with John Handy, LaVerne Baker, and Jefferson Starship. Taylor is working on a new CD and is one artst to watch in 2016…her time has come!!
