DESCRIPTION:One of the life goals of Ernest Dawkins is to represent th
 e African American cultural experience through his music. One of Chica
 go's premier jazz saxophonists, he has recorded eleven CDs on labels s
 uch as Delmark and Silkheart, and is the founder and leader of his own
  group, New Horizons Ensemble, showcasing their unique combination of 
 jazz, bebop, swing, and avant garde. The Chicago Tribune describes the
 m as \" a band with an uncommon versatility that erupts into new music
  bursts of dissonance and color. This band can enlighten an audience w
 hile enthralling it.\"\n\nDawkins has worked with music greats includi
 ng Ramsey Lewis, Muhal Richard Abrams, Lester Bowie, Ed Wilkerson, Hen
 ry Threadgill, Amina Claudine Myers, Anthony Braxton, Jack McDuff, Don
  Moye, Jerry Butler, and The Dells. He has performed in South Africa a
 nd Mozambique, and composed music for the documentary film \"Malcolm\"
  in 1995 under the direction of Alan Siegal. Dawkins currently serves 
 as chairman of the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative M
 usicians), the oldest musicians collective of its kind in the United S
 tates.\n\nOpening the show will be the local duo of Lee Robinson and E
 d Tarzia. This show is part of the Summer Jazz Mondays Series - ticket
 s are $15 from the Thunderbird site and $20 at the door. The upstairs
