DESCRIPTION:On Sunday, April 19 at 3 p.m., the Carnegie Mellon Jazz En
 semble will take the stage in Carnegie Library of Homestead’s Music 
 Hall in what will be a performance first for the School of Music.\nCar
 negie Mellon's Jazz Ensemble, led by Director of Jazz Studies David Pe
 llow, will perform a newly arranged work by faculty member John Wilson
  for jazz band, soloists and digital string orchestra. The \"orchestra
 \" is comprised of five Carnegie Mellon music students who have record
 ed 20 digital tracks that will be\ntime-stretched to synchronize with 
 the live band. A member of the Jazz Ensemble will tap a custom-made fo
 ot pedal, which will allow the computer to sense the\ntempo and other 
 cues in different parts of the music. This computer accompaniment stem
 s from a project by School of Computer Science Professor Roger Dannenb
 erg. His research on this subject has been sponsored by Microsoft thro
 ugh the Computational\nThinking Center.\nThere will be additional \"di
 gital jazz\" with electronic performances by Tomas Henriques on a digi
 tal valve instrument controller, Lyle Chamberlain on EWI, and Professo
 r Dannenberg on trumpet with computer processing. Herniques is a visit
 ing scientist in the School of Computer Science and Chamberlain is a r
 obotics graduate student and regular member of the band. This event, w
