DESCRIPTION:William Hooker played with the Isley Brothers and Dionne W
 arwick early in his career. In college, he befriended members of Funka
 delic, and in the mid-1970s joined the New York \"loft scene\" of adve
 nturous free jazz performers. While Hooker was active in music through
 out the 1980s, he was little recorded until the 1990s. While most of H
 ooker's output is rooted in free jazz, critic Neil Strauss has written
 , \"William Hooker is a man determined to get his music 'out there', a
 nd he'll cross any genre to do it,\" so he has crossed over into noise
  rock and free improvisation.\n\nHe has worked with Glenn Spearman, Ch
 ristian Marclay, William Parker, Sabir Mateen, and Sonic Youth founder
 s Thurston Moore, and Lee Ranaldo.\nWith over 20 critically acclaimed 
 CDs, he has received commissions as a composer from Meet the Composer,
  the NY State Council on the Arts, Real Art Ways and others, and has l
 ed many creative ensembles with musicians from diverse backgrounds, fr
 om David Murray and David S. Ware, William Parker to DJ Spooky. Hooker
  often reads his poetry during performances as part of the musical com
 positions.\n\nOpening the show will be the D.C.-based band Matta Gawa.
  This show is part of the Summer Jazz Mondays Series - tickets are $10
  from the Thunderbird site and $12 at the door. The upstairs club area
