About Me:: Saxophonist, Flutist, Composer, Band Leader, Educator, Poet, Journalist. New to Pittsburgh, hailing from New York. Have played with Chico Hamilton, Sonny Sharrock, Buddy Miles, Levon Helm and many others. Have taught at Williams College, Dartmouth, Montclair State University, Putney School among others. Father was the great NY saxophonist Arnie Lawrence, who started the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC and the International School for Creative Music Studies in Jerusalem. Pittsburgh native Hildred Humphries was an early mentor in my career and still is a beacon in my heart and memory. David Amram is another dear mentor, as were Sonny Sharrock, Chico Hamilton, Levon Helm and my father. Have won 2 Grammy's with the Levon Helm Band and one Platinum record with the Spin Doctors, Space Jam (soundtrack).
