About Me:
James Hovan, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, piano, harmonica, bass, hand percussion, and most recently steelpan, made Pittsburgh his new home in 1995 . Since arriving, he co hosted the Calliope acoustic open stage at the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern for 7years, ran a trio called Djambone with the fabulous fiddler Bob Banerjee, did session work and concert backup for several local artists, and did a three year stint on guitar and vocals with Dr Zoot, one of Pittsburgh's most versatile swing and variety bands. After taking a break from gigging to finish home renovations, move Mom to the Burgh, and chill a bit, James is returning to the scene, occasionally playing solo, but mainly in The James Hovan trio, featuring Emmett Frisbee on keys/bass and sometimes flute or sax, and Winston T. Good on drums. James has also been honing his new skills in digital audio and video production and engineering on Apple computers. Stay tuned for more. The website should be up soon.
