<div class="rich-content-editor__text____TY9i rich-content-editor__elementSpacing___1DUY1 _30gAZ"><div class="public-DraftStyleDefault-block public-DraftStyleDefault-ltr"><span>On Saturday, April 14, Slide Hampton performed at Wallace’s Whiskey Room, an intimate restaurant and bar right below Hotel Indigo in Pittsburgh, with Al Dowe's (trombone) band consisting of Etta Cox (vocalist), Harold Betters (trombone), Peter Lin (trombone), Jeff Lashway (piano), Tony DePaolis (Bass), & James Johnson III (drums). Inside this packed room, the audience had a great time experiencing these legendary musicians creating and experimenting on stage.</span></div>

Instead of taking a plane or car, we travelled by train on the Pennsylvanian 34, which takes you from Newark Penn Station, to Philadelphia, and then all the way to Pittsburgh with a total of 8 hours of travel. Luckily, music was on our minds the entire ride, sparking a motivation inside Slide I barely see unless he is in good company.</span></div>

<p><span>Upon arrival at the Pittsburgh Amtrak Station, we ran into his old colleagues; Al Dow & Sonny Baker. A short car ride and conversation later (some posted below) we arrive at Hotel Indigo (right above Wallace’s Whiskey Room) and had a great reunion between Slide Hampton & Harold Betters (recently turned 90!)</span></p>

They both come from musical family bands, have associations with JJ Johnson (Harold used to sub out gigs to Slide & JJ when they were in town), and have the deepest respect for each other. After a lengthy conversation, we went into the hotel's conference room and played for each…</span></p>
