I wondered about this, too. Why does today's music seem so formulaic? At first I thought that my taste in music stopped evolving when I was in my 20s. But I'm too adventurous. This video explains a lot. I guess there's a formula for any art form that sells: music, literature, art. The gatekeepers find it's more lucrative to keep doing what makes the most profit.
