AFRO-AMERICAN MUSIC INSTITUTE CELEBRATES 36 YEARS
Pain Relief Beyond Belief
So Sad!! Butchie was a good friend and one of my jazz mentors! We worked together at WYEP and we hung a lot at Stedeford's talking jazz. RIP my brother.
Oh no, I am so sad to read this. I recently moved back to Pittsburgh and was hoping to look Butchie up to say hi. He accompanied me on many a cold morning getting ready for work when he was on WYEP. This was in the mid-80s. I often called into his show with a comment or question. We hung out a bit, and he even took me to the Crawford Grill for the first time. I can't find any info online, I'm guessing I missed the funeral. I would have loved to pay my respects, but perhaps there will be a more public memorial event or jam session for him.
