PITTSBURGH JAZZ

From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.

Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie  idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s?  Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?

Some answers  can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.

For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz.  One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical.  We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it.  When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.

Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

To further muddy the waters, look no further than Aprilia's (no longer sold in the US) Mana, and to the Honda NC750X - full-size motorcycles, but with automatic transmissions and built-in storage compartments where their gas tanks should be. In the end, the Pros vastly outweigh the Cons, whether you choose a scooter or a motorcycle. Or both. filexlib. In real-world tests, manuals can still eke out 2-5% better fuel economy than their automatic counterparts. And in the hands of a master, up to 20% better in the same traffic conditions, even with a super-efficient automatic as on the Mitsubishi Mirage. On cars where the automatic transmission is superior in the real world—as in the CR-Z—the I had a revelation after the manual transmission in my '97 Ford was replaced three times under warranty: Quality is more important than any inherent design advantage of automatic vs manual. As I see it, manufacturers make a lot of automatic transmissions and they put a lot of effort into making them reliable and durable.
Manual vs. automatic transmission Manual transmission cars are less common than vehicles with automatic transmission, accounting for less than 2.5% of sales in the United States. Fewer than 15% of modern car models even offer manual transmission as an option. Maintenance When it comes to comparing the maintenance cost of an automatic versus a manual transmission, the manual gearbox will come out as a less complex device. They are essentially composed of parts that do not need any electronic intervention, thus, one less thing to worry about.
It's best to palm the shift knob. If you grab or squeeze it and try to force the shifter from one gear to the next, it will often miss. Myth 1. Manual transmissions always get better fuel economy
Cheaper to maintain: Manuals generally require less maintenance because they have a less complex design than automatics. Repairs tend to be significantly cheaper - unless the clutch goes. Cons Not as safe: With a manual, you need to take one hand off the steering wheel to change gears.
Manual: Automatic: Manual Clutch and Gear Shifting Levers: Yes: Motorcycles with DCT or electric drive do not have clutch and gear shift levers. Shifting of Gears: Manually done by the rider. Done by the motorcycle itself. Cost: Typically less than automatic. Typically more than manual. Maintenance Cost: Typically less than automatic. Typically
Compare an auto and a manual fitted to the same engine, and you'll invariably find that the manual is more efficient, as the auto gearbox relies on engine power to shift gears. You'll also be
Automatics have about 7-10% more drivetrain powerless than a manual and the only reason they can put down similar fuel economy numbers as a stick is because they use taller gearing to hide this deficiency, that's why the automatic corvette has 3.08(sacrificing speed for MPG) gearing vs the manuals 3.42 gears.
A manual transmission vehicle is easy to spot. The first thing to look for is that there are three pedals. The clutch is all the way to the left, and then you also have your brake and your gas pedals. An automatic vehicle only has the brake and the gas pedals. Another way to identify if a car is automatic or manual is the gear shifter.
Sa automatic airblade 160 vs sa Manual is Supra gtr 150 for long/short rides always may obr at sa maintenance nadin. Gusto ko mag manual pero gusto ko yung airblade. Naguguluhan pa kasi ako kung alin kukunin laki din kasi difference sa presyo pero kaya naman kahit papaano.
