From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.
Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s? Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?
Some answers can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.
For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz. One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical. We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it. When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.
Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.
WELCOME!

It is a gravity-powered treadmill that will enable your cat to walk or run at their pleasure or when encouraged with toys and treats. Materials needed include: Supplies: Pleather material. 6 placemats. 3 pieces of ¼" x 1 ½" x 36" wood. 1 piece of 1" x 4" x 6' wood. 2 pieces of 1" x 12" x 48" wood. Staple gun. Just make sure that the width of the desk legs allow for the 24″ width of the Rebel Treadmill or 29″ for the LifeSpan. Don't Plan on Running… Since both of these machines are designed for walking while working, they do not have an incline option and they don't have high speeds that allow you to run. Once the machine is in the room, however, you will find you can DIY - do it yourself. If you have any problems with the treadmill assembly, you should find the answer in the treadmill's manual. If this manual is missing from the carton, check the treadmill manufacturer's website to download a PDF file of the manual. DIY Dog Treadmill Blueprints Use our dog treadmill blueprints to custom build a manual version! Our Dogge Runner™ Plans were designed by Stan, our engineer -in-residence. There's Stan at left, giving the treadmill he built a workout (or maybe it's the other way round)! At 6'4″ he's a bit on the tall side for this medium version… Treadmill Doctor: Walking Belt Replacement - Walking Board inside the treadmill frame Fuel Fitness USA: FT94 Motorized Fitness Owner's Manual Icon Health & Fitness: User's Manuals: ProForm Performance 1450 Treadmill Manual Ensure to calibrate tread to ascertain optimal function. Make sure the belt is aligned, power cables are in good condition, and screws are tightened in place. 3. Quarterly Lubricate the platform and the belt (according to the manufacturer's recommendations), and the elevation screw. Make sure all bolts and screws are well tight and fixed. 4. Yearly Measure the 2 PVC pipes to match the width of the treadmill. Insert a piece of 4X4s inside each pipe for more support. Mark the center point of the wood piece and drill a hole. Put the PVC pipes at the ends of the frame where the top is above the running board to prevent the carpet from getting caught when your dog is running. Since manual machines don't have a motor, this cost is null. The Stamina InMotion Manual Treadmill costs right around $200 $120 and is your basic no-frills machine. If you already have a standing desk or want to build your own, the T900 offers a cheap way to have your own treadmill desk without spending a lot of money. Step 5: Final Assembly. Place the legs where you want them around the treadmill. Cut the 1x2 crossbeam to length (keeping in mind it's easy to make things shorter later) and attach it to the desk legs, making sure that you aren't impeding your own movement when walking on the treadmill.
