From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.
Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s? Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?
Some answers can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.
For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz. One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical. We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it. When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.
Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.
WELCOME!

Click Select Records to File and find the file that you want to upload. Tip: You can also select multiple items in the standard multi-select way. The files are uploaded as record and display in the File Plan as incomplete records. You need to make sure any required metadata is added before you can set records to complete . INTEGRITY: Integrity is all about maintaining the authenticity and reliability of the records in question. For example, digital records are susceptible to edits and hacks. On the other hand, physical records, if not managed correctly, can degrade to the point where they are functionally useless. 1.5 Filing is a process of placing records in the appropriate location and order within a filing system. Detailed discussion on this process is provided in Chapter 4 of GRS' Records Management Publication No. 2 - Managing Active Records: File Management. Registry staff are advised to go through this chapter before going on further. 1.6 Records management seeks to manage and control records throughout their life cycle, from their creation and distribution, through their filing and use, and ultimately to their final disposition or permanent retention. B. THE BENEFITS OF RECORDS MANAGEMENT The benefits of a well-run records management operation are many: Space savings. Records management performance monitoring and review by the Office of Institutional Compliance. Records management addresses the life cycle of records, i.e., the period of time that records are in the custody of University offices. The life cycle usually consists of three stages: Creation or receipt. Maintenance and use. Records Management includes the entire lifecycle of the Record. Records Management begins managing a piece of information once it is declared a Record declaration or if it is initially created as a Record. Records Management concludes managing a piece of information when the Record is disposed or transferred to Archiving. Records Management related standards will help to inform and supplement legislation as a source of information for UBC records management programs. Two such standards are the ISO Records Management Standard 15489-1 (2001) and "Electronic Records as Documentary Evidence" Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) (2005). Filing and records management Business information can be an important contributor to your competitive advantage. Good filing and record-keeping systems make sure you have what you need, and avoid wasting time and effort looking for misfiled information and misplaced files. A simple approach can help you organise both computer and paper records. Filing and Records Management Records and Data Download Now! Purpose Establish controls that identify, maintain and store in good condition records that provide objective evidence of management and quality control in all areas of operation. Procedure An activity that has proved beneficial is the Records Management (RM) and the Electronic Records Management (ERM). Shepard and Yeo (2003, p. 1) argue RM "[Records Management] is the field of management responsible for the efficient and systematic control of the creation, receipt, maintenance, use and disposition of records." DOE Order 243.1b, Records Management Program provides the foundation and requirements for the establishment and maintenance of the DOE Records Management Program. It implements and provides the requirements and assigns responsibilities for creating and preserving DOE records
