From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.
Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s? Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?
Some answers can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.
For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz. One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical. We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it. When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.
Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.
WELCOME!

GSM is an open and digital. cellular technology used for transmitting mobile voice and data. Services operate at the. 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz frequency bands. GSM technology was developed as a digital system using the time division multiple. access (TDMA) technique for communication purposes. This paper propose design for smart meter which presents a user-friendly design of smart energy meter that can detect the most common forms of theft in user premises in real-time. The design mainly consists of Arduino UNO, ACS712 current sensor, voltage sensor, and GSM module. III. How to take the pulses from the energy meter Since we have used the STATIC ENERGY METER for the project purpose, in that we have to take the pulses out for the calculation of the consumption by the loads. We have coupled the static energy meter with the microcontroller using the OPT coupler, the Cal led of the meter is replaced by the A GSM-based Energy Recharge Interface which contains a prepaid card equivalent to a mobile SIM card. The prepaid card communicates with the power In India, the State of West Bengal has decided to introduce the smart card operated prepaid energy meters in remote islands of Sunder bans. In Mumbai, pre-paid power is provided by the In this paper, an Arduino and a GSM based smart prepaid energy meter has been proposed. Units are purchased by using GSM technology and those units are deduced according to electricity usage. This project presents a single-phase energy meter for domestic consumers with prepayment billing method. The smart energy meter monitoring system is shown in figure 1. The block diagram consists of Arduino, energy meter, WIFI module and IoT, Relay and transformer. Fig.1 Smart energy meter Energy meter used here is clamp energy meter .230V AC mains is the input given to the transformer and AC mains is converted to low voltage. The present project "IOT Based Smart Energy Meter" addresses the problems faced by both the consumers and thedistribution companies. The paper mainly deals with smart energy meter, which utilizes the features of embedded systems i.e. combination of hardware and software in order to implement desired functionality. interface a GSM modem and energy meter. The energy meter which generates the pulses as well as count the energy consumed is used. The digital energy meter is having a LED which blinks for a specific number of times to indicate the energy consumed (e .g. 1 Unit = 1600 pulses). These pulses are fed to ARMv7 based system which is Smart Energy Meter Using EEPROM, LCD, and Microcontroller 1Tukur Gupta, 2Vaibhav Karnail, N A Rai et al. discuss the GSM Based prepaid and post paid Energy meter [8]. This Energy Meter has many capabilities. Monitoring and controlling of meter can be done remotely. Meter Reading is done automatically. Theft Detection is made possible system consists of GSM digital power meter installed in every consumer unit. A GSM modem is connected to the energy meter. Each modem will be having its own sim.The sim card used is implemented in energy meter and it sends a message to the user about the due bill. A LCD is used in the hardware module for the user interface. Figure 3shows the hardware snapshot of proposed GSM based smart energy meter. Due to unavailability of IC AD7751, a digital energy meter is used. The purpose is only to produce energy pulses. Figure 4 shows the database at the service provider. For simplicity n
