PITTSBURGH JAZZ

From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.

Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie  idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s?  Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?

Some answers  can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.

For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz.  One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical.  We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it.  When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.

Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

Find any document from Microsoft Word, PDF and powerpoint file formats in an effortless way. steam boiler notes pdf Download No. Title Source Updated At 1 Boilers - me.ua.edu me.ua.edu 6 days ago 2 A Few Notes on Steam Boiler Trials and Fuel The combustion air fed into air preheater, is taken from upper part of the boiler room. The temperature of the combustion air before the air preheater is therefore between 25 and 40°C (in Finnish conditions). The flue gases 9 fexiting the boiler are usually kept above 130-150 °C in order to prevent corrosion. By operating a boiler combustion system, which is one of the most important production equipment in the thermal power plant, economically and efficiently, we can greatly save the coal consumption Feed water ispurified in a purifying plant to reduce the dissolve salts that could scale the boiler tubes. Cooling Water CircuitThe quantity of cooling water required to cool the steam in a thermal power plant layout issignificantly high and hence it is supplied from a natural water source like a lake or a river. The bituminous coal is used as boiler fuel has volatile matter from 8 to 33 % and ash content 5 to 16 %. To increase the thermal efficiency, the coal is used in the boiler in powder form. In coal thermal power plant, the steam is produced in high pressure in the steam boiler due to burning of fuel (pulverized coal) in boiler furnaces. Course Objectives: 1. Understanding the generation of power by utilizing various energy sources. 2. Understanding the use of steam, its operation in steam power plants. 3. Understanding the nuclear energy sources and power developed in nuclear power plant. 4. Thermal Engineering High-Pressure Boilers: Types, Working, Advantages, Disadvantages & Applications [PDF] Mohammed SHAFI. A high-pressure boiler is a type of boiler that operates at a pressure above 80 bars. They are widely used in thermal power plants for the generation of power. Water Tube Boilers Boiler water passes through the tubes while the exhaust gases remain in the shell side, passing over the tube surfaces. Conclusion Boilers are classified into fire tube or water tube boilers depending on whether the heat source is inside or outside the tubes. The goal in both cases is to maximize the heat transfer between the Course Objectives The course should enable the students to: 1. To provide an overview of different methods of power generation with a particular stress on thermal power generation. 2. To bring out the various measurements involved in power generation plants. 3. To provide knowledge about the different types of devices used for analysis. 4. 120. Format. pdf. Size. 5 Mb. D O W N L O A D.
