From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.
Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s? Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?
Some answers can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.
For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz. One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical. We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it. When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.
Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

Whirring sounds that occur while the car is in motion may indicate transmission bearing noises or driveline noises. Step 3: Check the fluid. If your car has a manual transmission, checking the fluid can be a big job. The car has to be jacked up and a check plug removed from the side of the transmission. 105,471 Posts. #3 · Oct 3, 2015. It's only noticeable under acceleration in 2nd gear after 2,000 RPM. I took it to Jensen to have the transmission Little transmission whining noise. I kinda figured that a manual transmission is going to operate a little louder then an automatic, because of all those gears spinning at idle, as oppose to an automatic when all you have is the torque Bearing noise - whine or growl that intensifies as driveline rotation speed increases. Does not have to occur in all gears. Countershaft bearings will be quieter in fourth gear, which is direct drive in most units, because of the lack of power flow through the countershaft. Lubrication - Lack of lubricant or too much lube will create noise. By. Underhood Service Staff Writers. on. May 19, 2008. Rislone Transmission Stabilizer with Stop Slip contains a special blend of viscosity improvers, anti-wear friction modifiers and extreme pressure performance additives to solve most transmission problems. These additives work together to reduce rough shifting and friction while eliminating Manual Transmission loud whine when deceleration. Hello Scotty, I recently bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 and after 5,000 miles there is a whine when I am in gear and I decelerate or lift off the throttle. Thought it may be the pinion bearing but how hard/expensive is that to fix? One of the major reasons why your car may be making that whining noise is because there are transmission issues. The gears and other parts may be worn down over time, or the transmission fluid is either old or getting at a low level. These things are prone to cause a noisy car when you drive, especially whenever you speed up. Registered. Joined Jul 6, 2010. 73 Posts. Discussion Starter · #1 · Nov 23, 2012. My 2001 5 speed is making noises in 4th and 5th gear. They go away when you push the clutch in. I only have 34,000 miles on the car, and it shifts perfectly. I asked my son whether he abused the transmission, and he admitted to some clutchless shifts in lower gears. 29,569 Posts. #3 · Dec 4, 2016. The NV3550 is known to be noisy. Normal noises include an audible whine at extreme speeds. Other noises are usually due to lubricant issues. Hard shifting, noise, wear, and internal binding are usually caused by lubricant issues — dirty gear oil, low levels, or the wrong lubricant. If your transmission makes a humming noise, you may be driving with low transmission fluid, or else your transmission fluid may be contaminated with metal shavings. If you hear a humming noise in all gears, you may be dealing with a worn or damaged shaft or bearing. Joined Sep 18, 2006. ·. 26 Posts. Discussion Starter · #1 · Dec 16, 2007. Only show this user.
