PITTSBURGH JAZZ

From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.

Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie  idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s?  Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?

Some answers  can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.

For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz.  One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical.  We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it.  When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.

Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

Fuel economy: Although some automatic transmission models are sophisticated enough to rival manuals in fuel efficiency, a manual transmission — when driven properly — usually performs better than an automatic. This is mostly due to the reduced loss of power and the ability for drivers to optimize their driving for better gas mileage. This is why automatic transmissions are considered much safer than manuals. Many people also argue that an automatic semi truck is the better choice, especially in heavy traffic. Did you know that in heavy traffic, a semi with a manual transmission can be quite tedious? This is likely to cause stress on drivers. In order to see how a CVT works, How Stuff Works explains, you need to understand a manual and a traditional automatic. A manual has a set number of gears, and the driver determines what gear The automatic transmission is $1,400, but its improved fuel economy — 15/25/18 mpg city/highway/combined EPA ratings versus 14/23/17 mpg — frees it of the manual model's $1,000 gas-guzzler tax. Furthermore, because a rotor is yet another part of the watch, and the rotor is generally quite heavy in order to function optimally, automatic watch tends to be heavier than mechanical watches. With that said, if you prefer slimmer watches, you may want to choose a hand-wound watch. At the same time, this cannot be said as a general rule, as In general, an automatic car might be better suited to those who are used to urban driving. If nothing else, not having to press the clutch on and off continuously will lessen driver fatigue. If you travel longer distances or are used to driving on faster roads, a manual car could be a better option. Having better control over the gear That the race-face 520-hp GT3 RS is only available with the PDK automated manual tells you something else about the stick-shift transmission: It makes a 911 slower. Porsche's own test numbers show The Ford Ranger seems to have crossed all the T's and dotted all the I's with its new 2019 model which comes equipped with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost, (10) Ten-speed automatic transmission. This 4-banger churns out a healthy 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Unlike its rivals, unfortunately, the Ranger is not offered in … There are many different pros and cons when it comes to manual recliners vs power recliners. Manual recliners have fewer locking positions, don't need to be plugged into a power source, and typically cost less. Power recliners have a nearly infinite amount of locking positions, are easier to operate, and often come with heat & massage. Jonny Lieberman and the Motor Trend gang has finally gotten their mitts on one to use for an episode of Ignition. The thing is, there are two versions of the ZL1 (not including the recently 1. Less overall cost than manual machining. Many factors would affect the cost of the machining process, such as scrap rate, labor cost, maintenance charges, and production of total parts. After making a deep summary between CNC vs manual, you may find the overall cost of CNC machining is less than manual machining. 2. However, an automatic transmission requires far more ATF than the amount of gear oil that a manual requires. This is because the torque converter in an automatic needs about twice as much ATF as the amount of gear oil that a manual needs. So for every fluid change, the service will cost at least twice as much for a
