assisted the 7th Annual LADY GOT CHOPS WOMEN'S MONTH JAZZ FESTIVAL as conduit of funding to offset the performance fees of the Ladies performing in the festival which had been held at the now defunct JAZZ SPOT in Brooklyn.The club owner/festival co-producer prior to this arrangement had paid all artists from the door and food sales. A poet, playwright, therapist and teacher, Maisha Baton had the gift of making connections that nurtured a host of artists and activists. The only female to perform with the Centre Avenue Poets Theater workshop -- and the last of them -- Dr. Baton died Sunday. She was 71.
