PITTSBURGH JAZZ

From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.

Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie  idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s?  Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?

Some answers  can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.

For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz.  One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical.  We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it.  When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.

Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

            INTERVIEW

       In Her Own Words

The best anti aging methods and treatments cannot be found at a beauty salon or at a makeup counter. This is just temporarily covering up the effects of aging. Unlike the best anti aging methods, they also do not address the health or wellbeing of a person, instead pay attention to simply what is on the exterior. Hormone deficiency is the root cause for most of the symptoms we associate with aging, so hormone replacement is the best anti aging method. By replacing these hormones which have been depleted over the years, the main one being HGH, you can have for yourself the best anti aging results possible which will not only be seen in your skin, but will be felt as an increase in energy and an improvement in health. Probably the best anti aging supplement for the purpose of hormone replacement is an HGH releaser. HGH releasers are great for anti aging not just because the hormone promotes the repair of organic tissue, but because HGH also stimulates other hormones to be released. So, for the best anti aging method possible you need to get to the root of the problem instead of just putting a band aid on it.

Many people will openly promote HGH treatment and never once mention the negative effects of undergoing HGH treatment via injections of synthetically produced hormones. Most people experience fluid retention and sore joints which sometimes develops into arthritis. HGH treatment via injections is also not recommended for diabetics because it interferes with insulin. The rarer side effects are much more troubling. Acromegaly has been reported on multiple occasions following synthetic HGH treatment. This is abnormal bone and cartilage growth which results in deformity and can be fatal if it goes untreated. Heart enlargement can be a part of this or develop separately from acromegaly when taking HGH treatment. Finally, HGH treatment can result in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. CJD, as it is abbreviated, is a neurological disorder which is related to mad cow disease. The nerves in the brain begin to die out and speech impairment, hallucinations, seizures will follow. CJD, caused by HGH treatment or otherwise has no cure and is always fatal. HGH treatment does not have to be dangerous, you can boost your HGH levels safely by using natural supplements. The supplements will encourage the body to produce more HGH rather than having artificially produced hormones injected into you. It is by far the preferable choice in HGH treatment.

While proper hormone levels are most important during childhood, which is the main period of human growth and development, an imbalance during adulthood is more common and can be very damaging as well. Basically, human growth is dependent on a cocktail of hormones, the most important being HGH (human growth hormone) which helps regulate the formation of new tissue cells and normalizes the amounts of other hormones being produced by the body. When these hormones are not balanced in children it results in either severe growth deficiencies or, the opposite, uncontrolled and far above average growth. Levels of human growth hormone drop in adults, and you would think this is preferable because we are no longer experiencing a significant amount of human growth. A small drop in HGH levels would be preferable, but we experience a drastic drop in levels of human growth hormone as we get older. This means that not only is there not enough human growth hormone to continue growing, but there is not enough left to even repair all of the damage the body is taking from the surrounding environment. Did you ever wonder exactly why it is a teenager can recover from a broken bone much faster than an elderly person? It is because of greater levels of human growth hormone. Much more than just that, a lack of HGH leads to nearly every symptom involved in the aging process.
