Pain Relief Beyond Belief

From Blakey to Brown, Como to Costa, Eckstine to Eldridge, Galbraith to Garner, Harris to Hines, Horne to Hyman, Jamal to Jefferson, Kelly to Klook; Mancini to Marmarosa, May to Mitchell, Negri to Nestico, Parlan to Ponder, Reed to Ruther, Strayhorn to Sullivan, Turk to Turrentine, Wade to Williams… the forthcoming publication Treasury of Pittsburgh Jazz Connections by Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Ralph Proctor, Jr. will document the legacy of one of the world’s greatest jazz capitals.

Do you want to know who Dizzy Gillespie  idolized? Did you ever wonder who inspired Kenny Clarke and Art Blakey? Who was the pianist that mentored Monk, Bud Powell, Tad Dameron, Elmo Hope, Sarah Vaughan and Mel Torme? Who was Art Tatum’s idol and Nat Cole’s mentor? What musical quartet pioneered the concept adopted later by the Modern Jazz Quartet? Were you ever curious to know who taught saxophone to Stanley Turrentine or who taught piano to Ahmad Jamal? What community music school trained Robert McFerrin, Sr. for his history-making debut with the Metropolitan Opera? What virtually unknown pianist was a significant influence on young John Coltrane, Shirley Scott, McCoy Tyner, Bobby Timmons and Ray Bryant when he moved to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh in the 1940s?  Would you be surprised to know that Erroll Garner attended classes at the Julliard School of Music in New York and was at the top of his class in writing and arranging proficiency?

Some answers  can be gleaned from the postings on the Pittsburgh Jazz Network.

For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz.  One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical.  We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it.  When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.

Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

Airborne the “Musical Peacemakers” of Contemporary Jazz sends out an Inspirational Message of Hope

" Winds of Change " the 6th CD from Airborne, the multi-cultural contemporary jazz
group from New Haven CT USA. Airborne the “Musical Peacemakers” of contemporary jazz are focusing their talents in a harmonious atmosphere for change. Their music transfigures a spirit of love and compassion for our fellow brothers and sisters. Echo’s a message to humanity that it is time to turn the page for the sake of our future generations.

The world is finally traveling on the winds of change. Many discoveries and efforts have been made to make us all aware of the dangers that peril our planet and its children. Many wonderful people have already dedicated their lives for this important change. But their deeds must have everyone’s support, help, and blessing.

Projects for Global Warming, Hunger, Natural Disasters, New Energy Resources, and Economical Distress have been created. All these concerns and factors have stressed our earth to its boiling point. The time is now for change and action. Without prejudice we must all stand together to achieve peace and global unity to take on these most difficult tasks.

We must reach out our hands to the world. We can make this earth a better place to live. No matter what faith, race, color, or wealth you have. We are all children of this world. Help save our planet and its children! Reach out your hand and ride the Winds of Change!

Their High-Energy Contemporary Jazz sound is in perfect tune with today's Smooth Jazz and Vocals radio formats. Yet still packed with intensity and complexity their expert performance, vocal, and composition skills are well respected in all the jazz formats and markets, (Straight Ahead, Modern, Acid Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, and Fusion) (College, Public, Cable, Satellite, Internet, and Commercial Radio).

Sounds of passion and emotion, a multi-cultural product of the band's hometown of New Haven, CT. Formed in 1988 the band has survived the ups and downs of today's frantic society with total dedication to their music, skills, and goals. With rare virtue, thought, and imagination these multi-faceted and experienced musicians have collaborated to create their own unique personal expression, original sound, and trademark in jazz music. Airborne the proclaimed “Musical Peacemakers” of Contemporary Jazz.
Compositions and performances of Airborne roar like the wind and sea and are filled with joy and excitement. Flowing with gentle moods of romance that heals an inner spirit with peace. Imagine music that captures life’s most beautiful experiences. Grooves that move soft, smooth, then wild.
Hot rhythms softly cruise on a cool sea of music and voices. Airborne has a beautiful trademark jazz sound of island passion and urban emotion. Music that is sensitive, straight from the heart and that echo's from deep within the soul.
A whirling musical journey packed with sincerity, serenity, and flawless execution. That lifts you to
a higher joy and awareness. Airborne’s musical recipe takes a can of straight ahead jazz with Caribbean and Latino influences. Pours in a few tablespoons of jazz fusion and a heaping cup of urban street funk. Then cooks all ingredients with pure technical talent till it gets boiling hot.

Their career is forever blossoming with each new recording project. All their CDs have made very successful marks on Jazz Radio Charts all over the USA and abroad with heavy airplay rotation.
