For almost 100 years the Pittsburgh region has been a metacenter of jazz originality that is second to no other in the history of jazz. One of the best kept secrets in jazz folklore, the Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy has heretofore remained mythical. We have dubbed it “the greatest story never told” since it has not been represented in writing before now in such a way as to be accessible to anyone seeking to know more about it. When it was happening, little did we know how priceless the memories would become when the times were gone.

Today jazz is still king in Pittsburgh, with events, performances and activities happening all the time. The Pittsburgh Jazz Network is dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the places, artists and fans that carry on the legacy of Pittsburgh's jazz heritage.

Yah I know...I'm hopelessly out of date. I STILL think "album" sounds cooler than "CD".

Musicians Behaving Badly

I am always never a bandleader, but I had wasted my time rehearsing with some guys I thought were loyal., but had no indication they weren't.
I HAVE RUN INTO NOTHING BUT B.S. SINCE I CAME BACK. THE SCENE HAS TOTALLY CHANGED!
ANYONE THAT KNOWS ME KNOWS i AM GOOD AND I AM 54 AND REFUSE TO DO THIS GAME OF BLUES VS. JAZZ ETC. I HAVE 2 CD'S IN THE MAKING.....ONE WITH ME AS THE WHOLE BAND.
UNFORTUNATELY, ON A LIVE PERFORMANCE THIS DOESN'T WORK.

What happened to the Pgh jazz clubs?

Pgh has such a rich jazz supporting heritage.I hope it doesn't become a thing of the past.

When I've been back to visit and to sing it has been so disheartening to see fewer and fewer venues still hanging in there.

There are so many really wonderful musicians there ( of course I include singers in that category).

They need the support of each other and of the Pgh audiences and potential employers.
