AFRO-AMERICAN MUSIC INSTITUTE CELEBRATES 36 YEARS
Pain Relief Beyond Belief
I will be brief. Again, I am unpleasantly surprised by some attitudes of some musicians locally. In 40 years of playing, I NEVER was refused when I asked to sit in...this was when I asked Jack McDuff, and BB King among others and they had no problems!
In 3 weeks, I was refused here twice. I am not upset, i think it's kind of funny and it confirms my feelings that the scene here has changed.
I had just finished my CD the night before one of these incidents... and as soon as it's mastered I will distribute it (limitedly?)
I play and sing all vocal and instrumental parts, including strings, piano and organ, bass. I used a drummer, however. It has several different types of music on it and basically is to show prospective bookers what I can do, and it does!
Anyway, I need to keep giving myself affirmations when this is finaltting in stuff happens and remember the feeling of finishing a project that took almost a year.
maybe I can finally get some respect from my home town
