You all know the rest of that phrase. My close associate and friend Bob Davis is going to be in town this Saturday, October 5 as a speaker. Here is something he posted today. You can reply to him by writing : earthjuice@prodigy.net

Mayor Ravenstahl proclaims August 18 as Leo Casino day in Pittsburgh. As I received the proclamation I thought about my beginning in the burg, the struggle, the love and my DNA. From being tortured at the police station at the age of 18, beaten like a dog. To playing the Hurricane, just think me ,the son of a whore. I am honored....

A few years back, I decided I had to end my life as a uneducated ignorant man. I placed education on the top of my list, something that I never did in my life. I noticed I was a dumb-ass country boy with everyone around me wise and far more educated. I was left out of many things and was laughed at more often then I liked. My Wife is a genius my sons Genius! I had to keep up or be left behind… I had volumes to say but was unable to do so, because I thought being educated was in a sense…

Now...before you folks start going off on a tangent let's not get it twisted, ok? There is great music in Pittsburgh. Just not enough of it and the failure by some promoters and other folks to get some of these big tours. It's not just Jazz but across the board. It gives me a migrane trying to figure out folks here, but I do love my home.
There have been some great shows and great concepts this summer. Poggie Bell at Market Square, Dwayne Dolphin's CD release shows at not one but…

Folks....please read the following report I saw today. The similar circumstances have ocurred to Eric Kloss and from my last encounter with he and his wife Cindy he is not getting any better either. Why doesn't anyone believe them? Eric is also suffering from a rare nervous condition. Perhaps if some of you see this perhaps we can finally do something. No one deserves to live like this. Even though many folks have issues with his wife and her "controlling" nature it bothers me to know that they…

Another year has gone by and I am given, one more time, the privilege to invite, in the name of the organizers, the jazz fans of Brasov and not only, to take part in a new international jazz celebration, here, at the Tampa´s feet. KRONSTADT JAZZ FESTIVAL IS GOING ON! What we started, last year, would continue with a new edition, at least as attractive as the previous one and definitely, a bigger one! This year too, the organizers of the event, Brasov…

Mosley sculpts a lifetime of passion By C. Denise Johnson | Courier Staff Writer “My sculpture is an urban Afro-American-Euro-Jazz influenced art. It is an effort to create works of vitality and identity which enhance space and transcend time.” If you’ve ever been down Herron Avenue between Bigelow Boulevard and Centre Avenue, you may notice an abstract looking piece of artwork that marks the Martin Luther King Reading Room and Cultural Center on Milwaukee Street; that piece of chiseled…

By Bob Karlovits TRIBUNE-REVIEW Thursday, August 14, 2008 For Mike Tomaro and Marty Ashby, paying tribute to the jazz legacies of Stanley and Tommy Turrentine is as natural as having a picnic in the summer. It seems only appropriate they are doing it at a free, late afternoon concert in Highland Park. "Stanley was a huge influence on me," says saxophonist Tomaro, who also is an arranger and head of jazz studies at Duquesne University. "Matter of fact, anyone who plays this instrument owes…

by Peter Weddle In tough economic times, it may seem out of place to talk about pursuing one's dreams. For many of us, such an endeavor is far too lofty and maybe even dangerously naive when just finding a job is the order of the day. Having been out of work myself from time-to-time, I am very respectful of this view. I've also learned, however, that it is absolutely wrong. The time to get it right - the time to acknowledge and act on your dreams - is…

After been closed for a couple of weeks, Gullifty's reopened last night. Of course, the reason I mention this is that OPEK is playing there Friday night, and I want to convince as many people as possible to attend. So do come by and celebrate with us, won't you?
