The Hot Club of France was formed in 1935 by Charles Delaunay and Hugues Panassie. Initially, its goal was to provide a congenial atmosphere where Jazz enthusiasts could gather and listen to 78 rpm recordings.  In the mid-1930's, the European Jazz community had little access to current American Jazz music.
