MTGlass points us to David Post's analysis of "the high cost of copyright," in reference to an article about the inability to make available a treasure trove of classic jazz recordings that the National Jazz Museum just acquired. The…

The following article by Kevin Amos is truly right on time.
In my opinion it provides at least a part of the answer to the question posed recently by the Wall Street Journal: Can Jazz Be Saved?
That…

Few things can make Devon Baker cry.
There was the time her pet hamster, Herschel, died. There was the time she was run over by a car. Neither episode provoked tears. Not even
close. And yet, on a recent…

As I sit here in the early hours of the morning I still can't get over the passing of my close friend and bandmate Richard "Dick" Vitalie. Yes folks I am a musician as well but I don't sit in as a vocalist or percussionist with folks here for many reasons. Lack of talent is definately not one of them. His going home service is today.
I was a member of Stick Against Stone back in the early 80's while I took a short leave from WYEP. I was…

It felt like the earth stood still... (if only for a few seconds), when I found out Gene Ludwig passed away. I have performed with him on many occasions, starting way back when. One of my most memorable gigs was with Gene, Jimmy Ponder and Hank Crawford.
I had just spoken to Gene on the phone month or so ago. We talked about getting together again (I live in Columbus OH) ... didn't know that would be the last time I we said good bye to each other.... man will he be missed.

Mi amigos! Mi companeros!
It has been a beautifully thick summer friends. So many beautiful people doing so many strange and wonderful things in my life. I tell you, X Day at Brushwood was like a dream. A nightmare actually,
wherein I had been promised salvation for a mere $30 or triple my $$ back, but the Aliens never came, not even with that durned Rupture forwarding app I bought for my Blackberry...... Though, Jeff at Starwood postulated that in 1998 the Aliens DID come…

Losing people we love is hard, no matter how you look at it. Time eases the pain but the longing to hear their voice and see their smile again can remind you of how much you cherished their friendship. Being able to hear the music they created and performed can help us heal the loss we feel. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, so make and create all the music you can for generations to hear and feel the…
